I have in mind a place which – as many men’s sheds – provides a workshop and meeting place for its members. But the main objective would be to reduce the amount of stuff that gets thrown away by repairing it.
Who is it for?
The public – as a way of presenting a convenient alternative to chucking stuff away. The idea would be that they could drop stuff off for repair.
People who might get involved in a makerspace using the workshop facilities – they could get membership in return for doing repair work
People who might want to belong to a men’s shed – they would still benefit from the sociability, but also be able to contribute purposefully.
I’d hope that in future it can develop to include opportunities for training young people with useful skills, which will become increasingly valued in years to come if we ever get anywhere near a circular economy.
If you would like to get involved or find out what it might entail, please email.
